It would be wrong to call it only a post office because it has a diverse collection of stamp which is sold by the name of PHILATELY museum.
This Post Office has also an special attraction regarding its stamp which is unique in design with respect to all other post offices in India with SHIKARA punched to it. This design was carved on its stamp to distinguish its status and its importance from other Posts Offices and also to have a recognized status of post delivery by this Post Office specially.
SHIKARA is a wooden boat found in DAL LAKE in Srinagar which is covered with tarpaulins and its body is made up of deodar woods. These are mainly used by the tourist for enjoying the beauty of Srinagar. A SHIKARA can hold up to 12 people on a voyage and these are often navigated by two boat men in phiran and they carry kangris (portable heaters) and have cushioned seats and back rests.
